Climb to the top of Fort la Latte with the family
For an unforgettable family day, we organize an outing with grandparents, parents and children! Direction the town of Plévenon, where we chose to visit the most visited castle in Brittany: Fort La Latte. Bonus ? The sun invites itself to travel!
Reaching Fort la latte: the start of the journey
Well attached shoes, we start our day with a 1h15 walk on the customs trail of the GR34. On our way, young and old alike are amazed by these landscapes.
Here we are ! We pass the entrance gates of the Fort! The Château estate is magnificent, and our visit begins with a nature getaway in the middle of a garden where we take the time to stop and recognize the thousand and one carefully labeled plants.
“Look, we see the flag of the fortress! ". Fort La Latte is even more beautiful than we expected! We had seen pictures before but you really have to see it to believe it. If we had to freeze the image, we would believe ourselves in the decorations of a postcard. This Château de la Roche Goyon guards the coast with an unobstructed view of the Channel: and to think that it has been around for centuries!
Push the doors of the fort
Past the gates of the fortress, it is an immediate journey through time. Over the small cobblestones, we guess the defensive system of Fort La Latte and we try to imagine how the places could be at the XIVth centurye.
"Mom, we haven't already seen the Fort in a film ? " Well seen ! If Fort La Latte is not so unknown to us, it's because it was used as a filming location for the films Ridicule, Les chouans, les Vikings... Or even for one of the clips of the Manau group!
Follow the guided tour with the children
Unanimously, we vote for the guided tour of Fort La Latte ! We are greeted by our exciting guide… Who is even suit in medieval dress during the summer! It takes us back in time and accompanies us through our journey.
He explains to us that this historical monument is in fact private, which explains the opening hours of Fort La Latte. The castle was built by the Matignon family in the XNUMXth century : we didn't know it was also known as Castle of Roche Goyon !
At the entrance, children rush to observe animals such as chickens, goats, peacocks... We learn that the real entrance to the Fort is a little further. So following the small path that leads us there, we first stop to take a picture with the pillory and the sea in the background.
On our way, we meet several vestiges of the old days, including a first authentic drawbridge. Alongside, we take the time to observe thehuge ram : we had never seen one so close. Our guide explains to us that this first châtelet dating from the XNUMXth century had two towers on each side of the drawbridge. On our left, we take a look to observe the old stables and on the other side, we learn that the staircase gave access to the walkway!
After a few meters, we cross a second small garden which offers us a magnificent view of the seaside. The guide advises us to go to the second drawbridge for a magical photo! He was right: from here, the panorama on the Cap Fréhel and its lighthouse is extraordinary. It's noted, our next excursion is already booked. In the yard the children discover the tower which was used as a dungeon!
Play the knights in the heart of Fort la Latte
We then pass the large gates of the Fort! That's it, we are in the heart of the famous fortress! In a few seconds, we really feel like time travel. Opposite, the chapel of Fort La Latte is incredible.
Our guide explains to us that the guard house, dating from the XNUMXth century then renovated in the XNUMXth century, could accommodate 20 to 40 soldiers! By showing us the XNUMXth century cistern, we learn that it was used to collect rainwater thanks to gutters located along the roofs...
Quick, we enter the keep ! Inside, you have fun poking your head through the battlements, and at the top, you pass through a museum room. You can even go around to enjoy the 360° view.
Going down, you pass through the small room on the left: the round room is magnificent. Our guide tells us to take a good look at the ceiling with its beams and arches.
As they walk through the room, the children discover what the latrines were.
From the top of the dungeon, the view is breathtaking ! Between the boats and the sailboats, we manage to recognize the places we have already explored!
A little further on, we see the Ferry Corsair which we take tomorrow! Leaving from Dinard, it passes through Saint-Malo and also Saint-Cast-le-Guildo. That way we'll see Cap Frehel and Fort La Latte for a 1h15 commented cruise.
We end our trip with a short detour to the souvenir shop. Inside, you can't miss the magnificent fireplace that comes from a mansion in the region.
