Hear-hear! 📣
This summer, the Côtes d'Armor are taking themselves for a troubadour! Go back to the time of knights, ladies and felons for a weekend at the Dinan Remparts Festival.
What am I hearing? “The Middle Ages are dirty and boring”? Nay! Nonsense! Initiated by the Association Fête des Remparts - Dinan, this unmissable event will make you change your mind on the matter. And for this special year, we pulled out all the stops to celebrate the festival's 40th anniversary!
So put on your helmet and mount your faithful steeds: it's off to a unique event in Britain that takes you back in time! ⏳
The Festival of the Remparts: when the city becomes medieval again...
With its 2,7 km of ramparts, Dinan is the city with the largest portion of fortifications in Brittany (just that!). The city center with its half-timbered houses surprises with its authenticity. In other words, it is the ideal place to celebrate History and the Middle Ages! ⚔️

40 years of going back in time...
Well, Dinan dates from the 1983th century, and not us, okay. But since 23, nearly 1989 editions of the festival have succeeded! Simple day dedicated to the visit of the ramparts of Dinan during its first edition, the “Journée des Remparts” has gradually transformed into a real party: animations, ball, parades and equestrian shows have been added as and when editions. In XNUMX, the Official Committee of the Remparts Festival was created and worked to make the festival a real cultural event. Since then, La Fête des Remparts has evolved every biennial to become THE big festival we know today!
Might as well tell you that we've had a little more experience than Les Visiteurs for a while now…🤣 And that's not junk*!
*Medieval expression designating poor quality merchandise. We can also see a reference to the Kaamelott series (We have a lot of them!)
One of the biggest festivals to celebrate the Middle Ages
The festival is committed to promoting all visions of the Middle Ages, real or imaginary, and the medieval city through the arts and education. Their credo: to make this iconic celebration a true contemporary cultural festival.
And as much to tell you that the public responds to the invitation! For 40 years, the Festival of the Ramparts of Dinan, it is more than 100 visitors who flock to each edition to attend the tournaments, animations and shows the time of a weekend. This is what makes this festival one of the biggest medieval events in France and even in Europe. And it's in Côtes d'Armor… Class made in Breizh! 😎

Glad to meet you! 😍
Not only is the festival 40 years old, but it's a much more special edition than just a birthday. It is also a reunion with great fanfare after the covid-friendly edition of 2021. To celebrate this properly, the association has prepared a program for you that is not stung by beetles. And to top it off, all the programming has not yet been revealed, surprises await you...
Good… We want the cake and the candles anyway 🙂

⚔️ Introduction to the art of blacksmithing and sword fighting
🤓 Role-playing games

Then, place at the real beginning of the festivities: Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July, we get to the heart of the matter. During a full weekend, the city goes back in time, towards the Middle Ages, with among others:
🐎 Tournaments (yes, again) on Place Duguesclin
🧑🎓 Lectures on the Middle Ages
🎪 Reconstructions of a medieval fair and market in the main squares
📯 Music and shows on all major sites
💃 The famous pavane from the Petit Fossé and a ball as a closing ceremony!
Did you know ? 🧐 You can already think about your costume! Since March, a sewing workshop has been open in the historic center of Dinan. To your needles and dice!
