On September 16, 1950, the meteorological frigate "Laplace" sank on a mine in Baie de la Fresnaye while trying to take shelter from a storm, resulting in the death of 51 sailors.
A monument to the memory of the victims was erected on the cliffs of La Mare beach in 1952.
It is made entirely of Granite, 8 meters high, it represents the prow of a ship from which rises a pyramid symbolizing life cut down by a disaster.
To get there, it is possible to park in the Plage de la Mare car park then take rue de la Pointe du Loup. The column is located along the GR34.
