Mara Dominioni Workshop

Plelan-le-Petit

About us

Mara Dominioni, an artist of Italian origin, lived her childhood lulled by the Swiss mountains, shaping her artistic sensitivity.

From a young age, Mara demonstrated a deep love for art. It was in evening classes where she explored the different facets of drawing that her passion took root. Aware of the realities of life, she undertook studies that harmonized her love for drawing with social expectations and chose to immerse herself in the world of drawing, building and interior architecture.

In 1990, a professor saw in her a predisposition for sculpture and sent her to a colleague in Budapest. The meeting with the sculptor was the catalyst for a profound revelation for Mara.
This Master of classicism, working in the service of the government, shared with her the secrets of sculptural art.

In 1993, Mara felt the powerful echo of her inner passion, pushing her to make a bold choice by abandoning her career in architecture to start all over again by attending the Amsterdam School of Fine Arts.

She then continued her studies in Florida as an autodidact, the United States being more focused on contemporary art at that time. After 6 years on the American continent and a degree in fine arts in hand, she returned to Europe, initially returning to the Netherlands.

Over the years, she discovered different materials with a particular crush on marble, thus traveling back and forth to the Carrara region in Italy to transport pieces created in other materials.

Mara's artistic soul found a new setting in Brittany, more precisely in the town of Plélan-le-Petit where she chose to set up her workshop.

Brittany proved to be an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the artist.
Daily life, the stages of life, social encounters, the subtle intentions of the Bretons captivated his gaze, becoming the privileged subject of his creations, freezing emotions, simple gestures and moments of sharing in varied materials, such as as clay, plaster, wax, bronze, marble, and more recently resin.

Recently, the artist has been incorporating colors. These colors so rich in the Breton landscapes are also revealed in the painting that the artist explores more and more.

We invite you to come and discover Mara's works by appointment in her workshop or frequently in the galleries of Dinan such as the l'Art du coin de la rue gallery... and why not, follow her path and come and get started in sculpture during the courses it offers (dates to be found in the Agenda section).
