Painting exhibition: Memories of Armor, Gaston Thiery

Saint-Cast-le-Guildo

About us

Pierre Souverain, grandson of the painter Gaston Thiery, will pay tribute to this artist by presenting the exhibition "Souvenirs d'Armor" retracing the work painted by Gaston Thiery in Saint-Cast-le Guildo.

Gaston Thiery is a figurative painter, born in Lille in 1922. After studying Fine Arts in France and Belgium, the Second World War broke out, and he took refuge in the Creuse in Fresselines. He settled there and created over 70 paintings, Aubusson tapestries, drawings and sculptures in his workshop "La Grange" for almost 4500 years.

His works have been distributed throughout Europe, Japan and the United States. Some are part of numerous public and private collections. He has exhibited his landscape and nature painting in the largest Parisian galleries.

In 1970, he discovered the Côtes d'Armor and more particularly Saint-Cast-le Guildo. He fell in love with the region and its broad horizons.

He acquired a house in Saint-Cast and very quickly set up a workshop there, unable to give in to the temptation of painting the landscapes, the mudflats, the old hulls, the rocky coasts, the sea spray and the breakers of our Emerald Coast.

This Breton adventure will last more than twenty years.

Gaston Thiery died in 2013, but his work lives on.

After the success of a majestic retrospective exhibition in Creuse in 2022 for the centenary of his birth, his family is presenting this year part of his painted work in Côtes-d'Armor.
