Dinan Castle: our advice for an unmissable visit

Follow the guide to the Château de Dinan! Find all the essential information for a memorable visit to this castle built in the 14th century, an emblematic monument of the Côtes d'Amor and the medieval town of Dinan.

Why visit Dinan Castle?

An emblematic monument of the city, the dinan castle stands out as an exceptional testimony to the princely residences of the late medieval period. Whether you are a history and Middle Ages enthusiast or a curious family, you can enjoy a fun visit with a scenographic route that combines medieval inspired furniture et experimental archaeology. Throughout the tour, two themes are presented: the art of war and daily life in a princely residence. A visit not to be missed!

We never get bored!

See you in the "weapons room" ! The boldest try on the panoplies of yesteryear like valiant knights: helmets, gauntlets and swords while the most daring wield polearms, gunpowder cannons, bows and crossbows.

And for budding vigilantes, the Château de Dinan invites you to relive the trial of the murder of the local lord Jean de Beaumanoir and, better than Bertrand Dugusclin, to find the culprit.

A bit of history at the Château

Built in the 1380s, at the request of Duke Jean IV to assert his power over a city that was hostile to him, the Château de Dinan rivals the royal château of Vincennes, residence of the King of France Charles V. This château thus offers an insight into daily life and the art of living at the court of Brittany.

Different spaces to discover

Thanks to experimental archaeology, the Artillery tower and its arsenal can be explored and discovered without moderation at the Château de Dinan. The time has then come to join the Ducal Tower but for that, you will have to take the famous underground Mercoeur. The different levels of the Tower are then revealed, as you walk through the castle: kitchen, banquet hall, bedrooms... to end with the highlight of the show: the view of Dinan from the panoramic terrace
