Ornithological sites

Observing a wild animal immediately connects us to nature, with a capital N. From the smallest ant to the big deer, with a little patience the magic happens.

On our territory, we have the extraordinary chance to count many spots where bird watching will make us grow wings.

Cap Fréhel

Fauconnière island

In spring, between April and June, Cap Fréhel is the scene of seabird reproduction and as such constitutes one of the most exceptional sites in France. Observers will be able to admire Black-legged Kittiwakes (penultimate colony in Brittany), Black-backed Gulls, Razorbills (40% of the French population), Common Guillemots (80% of the national population), Great-crested Cormorants, Northern Fulmars . Each species has its preferences and settles on the cliff according to its orientation, its shape, etc. The spectacle is captivating.

Fresnaye Bay

Migratory birds arrive each winter from the far north in the bay of La Fresnaye, a salt meadow very rich in life and diversity.

Here, many species of birds retreat at rising tide, such as the oystercatcher, otherwise known as the magpie, a black and white bird with a red beak, or the Eurasian curlew.

Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer

Colombière islet

It is off the Ébihens archipelago, in Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, that the ornithological reserve of the Colombière islet is located. Here nest 4 species of terns in spring and summer for reproduction. It is essential to leave this protected species alone because at the slightest disturbance, terns can leave their eggs at the mercy of predators and weather disturbances. Visiting the islet is therefore prohibited!

Marsh of Sables-d'Or-les-Pins

The Sables d'Or lagoon is a natural site where the mouth of the Islet merges with the sea. Exceptional today, the coastal marshes were very numerous 50 years ago. The stand is made up of common species, but also of species specializing in certain localized habitats. The salt meadows in particular are home to the Meadow Pipit and the Cisticola des rushes.
